OP Jindal Global University has organised a two-week training programme on the “Strategic Management for Indian Army Officers” under the aegis of Army Management Studies Board. The programme comprises topics on economics, human resource management, management information systems, public policy, behavioural sciences, operations management, marketing, finance and accounting, strategic management and industrial visits to corporate offices.
Besides the armed forces ethos of loyalty and work discipline, this two-week management programme gives Army officers an exposure to core areas of business management.
This combination of courses is aimed to train the middle-level officers of combat and combat support arms for the latest management techniques and tools at the micro and operational levels.
Twenty five middle-level officers have been selected by the Army to undergo this training programme. The aim of the course is to augment officers management and leadership skills. The university has a pool of globally qualified faculty members, who will impart strategic management training using modern tools.
Lt Gen DS Sidhu (retd), former Director General Mechanised Forces, who inaugurated the training programme, said there was a symbiotic relationship between leadership and management. He said, “Command, leadership and management are strongly connected and the Army officers have to deal with complex management challenges. Maximum managerial expertise is needed for that.”
University Vice-Chancellor C Raj Kumar in in his welcome address said, “The biggest challenge of our country is building and strengthening institutions. Institutional building is a long-drawn process based on systems and institutional development. We hope to shape the future of higher education, Indian polity, nation building and institution building.”
This intensive course would provide the required competitive edge to Army officers, thus enabling them to shoulder higher responsibilities in their service careers, the VC added.
