Dr. Shanthi Karuppusamy received her Ph. D. degree in Political Science from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA in 2012. She also has an M.A. in Public Administration and an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Madras, Tamil Nadu, India and a B.A. in English Literature from the Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Her teaching and research interests span across international affairs, political science, public administration, public finance, public policy, and urban politics and policy.

She has taught for ten years in various roles (as teaching assistant and adjunct faculty) at Wayne State University, Detroit, USA and (as Assistant Professor) at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, USA and (as Associate Professor) at FLAME University, Pune, India. She has presented in several international conferences in the US. Her works have also been presented in conferences held in South Korea and Bangladesh. Her research has been published in leading public administration and urban affairs journals such as the American Review for Public Administration, Urban Affairs Review, and Urban Studies. She has won several scholarships, fellowships, and merit-based honors and was also awarded the Clarence Stone Young Scholars Award in 2012. She serves as a peer reviewer for leading journals such as Journal of Urban Affairs, Public Administration Review, Urban Affairs Review and Urban Studies.
Her research and teaching interests are oriented toward better governance and management of public, private and the nonprofit sectors.
